Closing the Distance – Top 100 award

Inspired by a cold winter evening, when a Short-eared Owl (“shortie”) paused on a weathered tree before taking off back into the dusk - this piece captures one of those special moments that make the refuge such an amazing local resource.

12 x 24 inches | Oil on Wood Panel | Plein air frame

To see a bison from this perspective, you have to stand directly in its path until you get the shot. It is good to have an extra set of eyes over your shoulder - and a very long lens!

Cardinal Among the Maple Buds - Honorable Mention

11 x 14 inches | Oil on Wood Panel | Plein air frame

The inspiration for this piece came one quiet spring morning, when a bright Northern Cardinal paused among the freshly budding leaves of our Red Maple tree.

I’m excited and honored to share that my painting “Common Kingfisher” received a Talent Prize Award in the 2026 Tara Arna International Juried Art Competition.

The 12” x 12” oil painting on wood panel celebrates one of nature’s most striking birds, whose brilliant colors and energy make it a joy to capture in this painting. It’s an honor to have my work recognized in this international competition.
