I first visited the National Park in Malaysia (Taman Negara ) in 1999 with my Malaysian girlfriend now wife . It was pristine jungle and we camped and climbed MT Gunang Tahan over several days. Aware Malayan Tigers were present but rarely seen was very exciting and following a meeting with Dr Kae Kawanishi who completed her PHD on tiger densities in Taman Negara , the total population was around was estimated at around 600 in Peninsular Malaysia. Kae and her team set up MYCAT and a national tiger action plan. Over this time frame poaching , forest cleared for oil palm continued until recently when the government had stepped up in an effort along with MYCAT and other organisations to save the Malayan Tiger from extinction.
We have supported the cause for many years and last year completed a CATWALK with 2 of our children . The Mycat Team with our expert Man (for short ) organised an amazing trek for conservation with tree planting . The Rainforest is an awesome experience and to see hornbills and hear Siamang in the mornings is thrilling and when checking camera traps and seeing images of the tigers and black panthers / leopards , I can only recommend a trip to Taman Negara to support Malaysian Conservation
