The great horned owl is one of world's most adaptable owls,  living on all continents and found in widely varying habitats.  Because of its adaptability, it is not an endangered species, and is an apex predator, but in our rehabilitation center, we often saw great horned owls admitted with eye injuries due to vehicle collisions.  Bright headlights on  dark highways seemed to be especially dangerous combination for these owls in the fall and winter.
