“Scientists believe that up to 75% of all species are indigenous to rainforests, and estimate that there may be millions of species of plants, insects, and microorganisms still undiscovered in them. By some estimates, half of all life on Earth and a quarter of all insect species can be found in the forest’s canopy layer alone. I wanted this painting to be a window into this world, which is perched between earth and sky, and with which I became very familiar during my AFC Flag Expedition to Panama. Some of the species I included are the Green Anole, Capuchin Monkeys, a Harpy Eagle, Blue and Gold Macaws, a hummingbird, a dragon fly, leafcutter ants, and a number of other insects. Just as in nature, some of these may not be visible at first glance, so I invite you to take a closer look – not only at this image but, more importantly, at the immense diversity of the natural world.”
