Shared Spaces
Christina Lake is a favourite place for me to fish and camp. In the "shoulder season" it is fairly unpopulated for a resort lake. In the mid summer months the amount of people double and therefore the impact of those people to the lake doubles. More garbage, more boat traffic, more noise pollution. This painting signifies the shared spaces people have, especially around water. The abundance of life but also the constant presence of humans. Whether it is simply a dock or trash on the lake bottom, there is always the reminder that people are around. I hope to portray the need to be more conscious about the lasting impact people have on the environment. Even if its not intentional, those lasting effects are usually negative. This painting shows both the wildlife and the presence of humans in a more positive light. I didn't want the painting to be depressing, just to be realistic in the fact that beneath the surface, things may not be so perfect, but with conservation awareness, maybe people will be more careful with the "footprint" they leave behind.
