The Artist

"Nature fascinates me.  Through painting, I feel a deeper connection with the wonder, beauty, and interconnectedness of the natural world.  I am most inspired by the untamed - wildlife, wildflowers, and natural landscapes that are buzzing with life.  These wild places and creatures are disappearing fast.  I hope that by sharing their beauty, I can inspire others to value and protect them.   "

Since retiring from an Information Technology career in 2005, I have divided my time between my two primary passions, making art and protecting and preserving the environment.   More recently, I've combined these avocations, using my art to raise awareness, support, and funding for conservation.

I have always felt a deep connection to nature. Growing up in an isolated, rural part of Northern CaIifornia, the forest was my playground.  I spent countless hours emersed in nature, which kindled both my artistic and scientific interest.  As I grew older, I began to appreciate how complex and interconnected nature is, and how vulnerable it can be to human destruction.  When I was a teenager, I began volunteering at the local recycling center. After reading "Diet for a Small Planet, I became a vegetarian at sixteen.  I've always felt strongly called to do my part to support a health, sustainable planet.

Since retirement, I've served on the boards of several environmental non-profits working in the areas of water quality, biodiversity, responsible development, and environmental education. I've also been donating artwork to fundraisers, and pledging a portion of show sales to support environmental organizations.  It's a special feeling when a painting finds a home with someone who shares my deep appreciation for a subject and a cause!
