Drawing on my background in science, I create evocative and purposely imperfect paintings inspired by nature’s geological patinas and the amazing colours of dawn and dusk. 

This painting has a dual message, the one of how beautiful and fragile our seascapes are, and also to remind people of the severe effects of climate change and if we are not careful how devastating wildfires can be.

For the sky and to emulate the ocean, I used oil paint applied with a palette knife and to create the play of light and reflections on the water I used several veils of thin oil paint and beeswax to create luminosity and depth. I used a fiery orange-pink palette to emulate the rare colour and haziness of a smoky sunset during a wildfire season. 

My muse is the ocean a vital component in nature and an international icon across cultures and countries. The beauty and energy of water have always drawn me in. I am always drawn to the infinite horizon, the many moods of the water, the rich air, and the everchanging beach, it is a place for exploration and reflection.

My art is a transformative interpretation rather than a literal rendering to elicit an emotional response. To experience this fully, the viewer must enter the multiple layers, shades and textures of my work, and be seduced into a visual, tactile encounter a holistic connection between artist and viewer, inspiring self-discovery, serenity, calmness and mindfulness.
I use mixed media for its capacity to create a visual and tactile experience. I curate combinations of materials and techniques to abstract reality, telling a story to elicit the viewer’s emotional response inspiring self-discovery, peace, calmness and mindfulness.

This connection I have with water its associated reflections, and the amazing colours, and hues of dawn and dusk is what has inspired this painting a homage to the natural beauty and emotional energy that globally all water bodies have.
