The Key Deer is a critically imperiled endangered subspecies of the White Tailed Deer that live only in the Florida Keys, specifically Big Pine Key. It's the smallest extant of the North American Deer species with the adult male averaging 30" in height and weighing an average of 75 Lbs. Conservation efforts include the National Key Deer Refuge which consists of 8,500 acres, However not all of the refuge lands are protected. About 5,000 of these acres are privately owned and are developable.
