August in the Wetlands
Riding my bike through the Zeeland Wetlands is a favorite activity for me. It was constructed with wonderful walking paths and many bridges enabling non motorized traffic the opportunity to observe nature quite easily. The other night I was there quite late, around 9, but in West Michigan in the summer we have strong light until 10. At this moment the sun was going down and backlighting a thick patch of tall grass next to the bridge I was crossing over. It was so overwhelming that I tried to record the color to the best of my ability and focused on that in the painting. As a result you are seeing brightly light greens buffered by a warm/cool shadowed areas. Swans frequent this area but on this evening I did not see them.
