A male Gunnison Sage-Grouse spectacularly fans its tail to attract a mate in iconographer Angela Manno’s art. Listed by the federal government as threatened (but deemed endangered by the well-respected IUCN Red List), this species feeds on tough sage-brush, most of which lies on private land in Colorado. The State is partnering with private landowners in 11 counties to create a plan to conserve these birds and their habitat.
