Spring Stroll
A bit of warmth in the air was a welcome feeling, especially after such a long and cold winter. The sun was shining and you could feel a bit of warmth in the air. Contrast to the cool snow below my feet. The snow was starting to melt and had an almost crystal like feel to it. I scanned the horizon for suitable reference photos, always on the hunt for painting material. White was the dominant colour in the landscape, with a rocky ledge and some vertical trees. Click, click, click…my camera did its work. From the corner of my eye something dark emerged. I pulled away from the viewfinder for a better look. There, unexpectedly, emerged a black bear. I was surprised and delighted. Perhaps the first few moments out of its winter den? Click, click, click…more photos. It stopped and raised its snout, taking in a big breath before continuing. Those first few steps into spring motivated me to paint “Spring Stroll”.
