I had the privilege of meeting this gorgeous Amur Tiger (also known as Siberian Tiger) at the Brandywine Zoo in Delaware. I decided to paint him in his natural habitat. I thought he deserved a respectful home setting, being that he is the world's largest cat! Did you know that the Amur Tiger stripe patterns are unique to each animal just as humans have birthmarks?
They can be found in The Amur River Valley in Far East Russia as well as Southern Russia and Northern China. Unfortunately, Their range has been significantly reduced due to illegal habitat deforestation and poaching pressure and they no longer reside in Siberia. There are currently 450 Amur Tigers left in the wild (WWF). Their conservation status is still considered endangered.
