Northern Gannets are one of the most interesting ocean birds and are the largest of the gannet family. Their markings are so striking and distinctive. They can spot fish while flying at up to 30m above the water and when ballistic, can hit the water at an amazing 24m/s! It is a formidable and breathtaking scene watching them "missile" into the ocean when hunting. I created this picture becaue the scene struck me, the calm before the storm perhaps.
