The Light in the Forest
The White Wolf (or Arctic Wolf) is a subspecies of the Gray Wolf. I was inspired by the stories I heard from an acquaintance who had done research work on Ellesmere Island, where the White Wolf lives without fear of humans. They often came into their camp simply with curiosity, never showing any fear or aggression to the human visitors, but simply as neighbors who had come to visit their island. Because they live so far to the north, they have never been threatened by hunters and so have not developed a distrust of humans. Often my artwork is inspired by dreams of animals, and I have had several powerful and beautiful dreams of being guided by a White Wolf -- with a spirit so lovely and surrounded by light that I felt I must paint it. This colored pencil painting is of that light and I hope that this precious light will reach into the viewer.
