Michaelann is a two dimensional visual artist who paints mostly in oils and acrylic, choosing the medium which matches her goal for the mood of the subject. The focus of her work often relates to her long time fascination with capturing contrasts, in light and shape, and also in subject matter which translates ideas of opposite or opposed meaning. Subject matter ranges from landscape, which she paints en plein air to studio, contemporary still life, and portrait, painted alla prima or for larger pieces a combination of direct and indirect painting methods. She is constantly setting challenges and self directed studies to expand and invigorate her art. These include exercises, experiments, studies of great art, inspiring master artists and art history which are an endless resource for her personal work.
