Biography

Van Wangye Shiming was born in 1981 Singapore to a Traditional Chinese Medicine Trade family. Born also a sickly child with Thalessimia, Amblyopia and Asthma. Since day one, he has seen a lot of animal parts sold at a grassroots level.

In the 90s during his studying in St Andrew's Secondary School; a Christian school, he was exposed to a lot of books on zoology, which inspired him to draw his first animal drawings. Mid of 1999, he was enrolled in the Nanyang Acedamy of Fine Arts to study graphic design. Even today there is no official class to focus on studying illustration in Singapore so his wildlife art is self-taught. Now he is also graphic designer, graphic artist, art teacher, and conservationist. The art of Van Wangye is collected or commissioned worldwide by art collectors, reptile hobbyists, politicans and nature lovers. His attention to detail, scientific accurancy as much as possible and ability to portray subjects in a dynamic way are a testament to his passion for the natural world.

Knowing his health is not very good, as much as he can, he tries and hopes his work will help further the efforts of wildlife conservation and scientific eduation, to make a difference for the planet.
