Florida's Roseate Spoonbill
The Roseate Spoonbill is one of Florida's colorful large native birds. It get's the showy pink coloration from small crustaceans that it scoops up with its spoon shaped bill while wading shallow coastal waters. Historically threatened due to hunting for their beautiful pink feathers. The practice is outlawed these days, allowing the population to rebound. Loss of habitat and adequate food sources do add to the decline of most of the Florida wildlife.
