Meet the survivor. She is the matriarch and stands strong even though poachers have taken her family. In the background the conservation officers are burning the tusks so that the ivory cannot be sold.
The Matriarch is usually the oldest and largest female. The rest of her herd is made up of the matriarch's daughters and their calves. The herd relies on her to make the major decisions as to their course of actions. When she dies she is usually succeeded by a relative from her herd.
I used multiple references and my own imagination to complete this painting. I hope that it pulls at your heart as it does mine.
Framing options as well as shipping options will be discussed.
