This piece began with 2 different winter days - a special day of collecting shells and other natural treasures with my mother on the beach in Texas, where she was wintering; and another day of watching Royal Terns on the beaches of Florida. It is my desire to encourage the viewer be aware and fight for the interconnected environment necessary for survival for this royal tern and her soon-to-be chick, and all the creatures that surround them.
It is a study of both the toughness, yet extreme fragility of life - mixed with memories of my mother’s nurturing, and things we both love-- the sounds of bird calls and waves, gentle winds off the water, warm sand underfoot, the brilliant blues of sea and sky, the unending search for shells and other treasures…. Days well spent.
