Three Great Egrets represents twenty years of work and study of these majestic wading birds. Twenty years ago I was rounding a bend on a Florida creek in a canoe and was greeted by the above birds who were somewhat back lit by the morning sun. I tried to photograph the three birds as I drifted under the branches they were on. The movement of the canoe did not make for good photo references but the images in my mind ended up on canvas. Over the years I changed the background twice and after moving to Florida three years ago I tackled the background again. The results were more pleasing to me and the painting is done.
