Sapelo Island Captive
My first Artist-in-Residence program was served on Sapelo Island, GA, through the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. On the island is an old mansion that was originally built (I believe) by the Phillips Morris Company, as they grew tobacco on the island. Walking around the outside of the building I came across this large window surrounded by a small pool. Inside the window was a beautiful sculpture of a woman. I was very drawn the the smooth, exotic lines of the sculpture. As a result of this encounter, I created "Sapelo Island Captive".
