A life size Loggerhead Shrike is about the size of a Blue Jay. It has a sharp beak to rip it's prey apart but it has feet of a songbird. The Shrike will use a thorn to impale it's prey and hold it in place while it rips the prey apart with it's sharp beak. The branches were fabricated from brass tubing and soldered, textured, and painted in acrylics. The thorns are wooden toothpicks, each drilled into place then epoxied and painted. This work is a wall hanging.
