In Unclear Water
The Toninha, also known as La Plata River Dolphin, is a cryptic species, difficult to see because it remains in cloudy coastal waters and doesn't exhibit surfacing behaviour like many other cetacean species. Found only along the east coast of South America, they are vital to the balance of the marine ecosystems but are threatened mainly by bycatch and marine debris. Images of animals are vital to promote public awareness and conservation, and through art, we can portray species in their environment that would otherwise be incredibly difficult to witness. In partnership with the Instituto Biopesca in Brazil, I gathered inspiration from images of stranded animals to help create this artwork and raise awareness for the Toninha. 15% of the proceeds will be donated to Instituto Biopesca.
