I was fortunate to encounter this beautiful fur seal during my graduate research expedition to the Falkland Islands. It was on Pebble Island, and that day I felt overwhelmed and discouraged about my research with gentoo penguins. Walking along the shore, I came across this sleepy fur seal nestled in the seaweed, and it was one of the most peaceful, rejuvenating moments. Watching it nap in the sun, I slowed down and experienced the amount of wildlife surrounding me. Less pressure, more gratitude. This is the first painting I completed after finishing my thesis to honour a moment of absolute peace that brought me so much courage.
