The exciting image of the leopard in action is mesmerising. Many years ago I stood in front of the enclosure at Melbourne Zoo and the memory remains crystal clear of the fast and powerful big cat ranging from wall to wall high above my head using only power and speed as leverage. In all my wildlife art I want to catch the instant that makes every species of animal the creaure it is, catching the instant....like the leopard peerless and explosive. 

I worked this painting over and over I wanted to present context, perhaps the edge of the jungle, or the heart of the forest because as always the leopard is adaptable like humans but with feline grace. Finally I chose an iconic perspective like the religious paintings of the icon artist, and the gold background.
