Friends of Woodhaven Series #1: Owlet Siblings
Western Screech Owls (macfarlanei) are listed as Endangered in Canada, and they are protected under the British Columbia Wildlife Act. We are very fortunate to occasionally see and hear them each summer in the trees right near Forest House Studio, and even in my neighbour's backyard. They face many threats, including predation and habitat changes. I will be drawing and painting a few variations with young owlets as "mascots" for the Friends of Woodhaven Conservancy Society, because preserving habitat for creatures like these little raptors is one of the important reasons this park was first protected from development.
The first two miniature (8" x 8") paintings for a Friends of Woodhaven series were sent to a November/December 2019 fundraiser exhibition in support of the Lake Country Public Art Gallery in the Okanagan Valley. Both originals have now been sold.
High resolution scans from these images, (and others in progress), will be used for media and logo/branding for the new Friends of Woodhaven Society in the Okanagan.
A percentage of sales from prints will also go to support nature education programs for children in the Central Okanagan in BC.
