In June 2019 Neilson attended the Kingsbrae International Artists' Residency, in St. Andrews New Brunswick. Since a residency can be a perfect opportunity for challenges and learning, she prepared by ordering supplies to try new media, one that would be portable for travel but still suitable for creating a full exhibition project.  Two centre panels were partially prepared ahead of time for a composition that could have other panels added later at the residency. The central hummingbird was inspired by a bird in her own garden, and by some sketchbook drawings. The goal was to try new approaches while deepening explorations of nature, biophilia effects, and biomorphic compositions; but then the town, the historic home and the media itself inspired the floral style for the circle.  It started with botanical studies, working with a patient meditative approach to painting in transparent watercolour on a clay surface that absorbs colour like fresco.
