Wisecracker
Allegory: The Laughing Kookaburra heralds the dawn, they draw together on the boughs of trees, high wires and fence-posts, throw back their heads and act as if the hugest joke in the world was about to be played….Incredibly intelligent birds, they make eye contact and are very good at training humans. More often than not the human is invited into their family, their raucous laughter starts with just one, as if he were the ‘wisecracker’ always ready with a joke that perhaps not all of them get. Just like a human at a party who always had the slightly off joke, that makes us turn our heads to each other as if to say “did you get that?”, or “Goodness, he’s at it again”. Then, just in case he should be embarrassed, he’s the first to laugh at his own expense, until, like polite guests, everyone joins in. After all laughter is infectious and the Kookaburra holds a huge place in the Australian hearts.
