The Secret Place
One day while taking a ride on some back country roads in Tioga County Pennsylvania, we decided to visit Hills Creek State Park. The main entrance was closed due to construction and we missed a turn on an alternate route that one of the construction workers told us about. Somehow we found a way in on a remote and narrow dirt road that took us to an area of the park we had never been to before, where we found a trail that we had never taken. When we came upon this cove with large white pines and red pines I got excited about all the textures in the trees and on the ground with the exposed roots, rocks, and pine needles. I was so entranced by the abstract designs created by the roots and rocks that I almost missed the Green Heron on the half submerged deadfall in the lake. These birds are even more skittish than the larger Blue Heron and they seek out more secluded and secretive places to hunt.
