Metamorphosis
I find peace in the delicate beauty of a screech owl’s feathers, and notice similarities in the soft wings of the sphinx moth, making me wonder if this is coincidence, scientific design, or something magical. Regardless of interpretation, imagining this metamorphosis helps me highlight the interconnectedness of our natural world. Ever since I was a young girl, I have tried to communicate with animals. Eventually, I realized that instead of talking to them, I should be listening. Humans often separate themselves from their animal kin and the natural environment. I use magical realism to give non-human animals a voice, encouraging people to think about that divide -- and begin to bridge it – by exploring our interconnectedness and their innate worth.
