Biography

 

 

Chosen 5 times for Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum, Birds in Art, and three times Canadian Ducks Unlimited National Art Portfolio winner, British Columbia artist Julia Hargreaves trained in England and graduated with a masters degree in art from Manchester Metropolitan University.

Hargreaves has had her art published internationally; in 2008, she illustrated Birdscapes: A Pop-Up Celebration of Bird Songs in Stereo Sound, which was selected as one of Oprah's top 10 books for Christmas.  

Hargreaves was selected as one of 50 artists from B.C. to participate in Art for an Oil-Free Coast. She took part in a field trip to the Great Bear Rainforest, and later donated her painting for auction, to raise public awareness about why the spectacular north coast of B.C. needs protection.

She was featured artist in the Penticton Meadowlark Festival 2014, and appeared in International Artist, several times, as a competition winner and as a demo feature artist, and her work has been featured in Arabella. She was awarded the AFC Medal of Honour in 2016.

She has taken part in 3 Wilderness River Expedition Artists Federation canoe trips to, Caribou Woodland Park and the Missinaibi River in Ontario, and the Kobuk River, Alaska, north of the Arctic Circle, to sketch and record the Boreal Forest, as part of a project to help preserve the largest remaining, intact forest on the planet. And also provides Northern lights Wildlife and Wolf Sanctuary (Golden BC) with prints from her paintings of their wolves, to help raise funds for wolf conservation

She is represented in BC by Gallery 421, Kelowna and Lloyd Gallery, Penticton: Avenida Gallery in Calgary, AB, and Robert Paul Galleries in Vermont, where she sells her original paintings.

Her prints are available from Picture Perfect in Kelowna, Lloyd Gallery in Penticton BC and Avenida Galleries, Calgary AB.

 

Support for Conservation: 

I am a keen environmentalist, using my work to bring highlight the spectacular beauty of out planet, whether it's in a wilderness setting, or my own back yard.

I help the Notrthern Lights Wildlife and Wolf Sanctuary raise money for wolf conservationn and awareness with sales of my wolf prints.
