The little Red Knot is truly a remarkable bird flying from their wintering grounds in Argentina, timing their arrival perfectly in Delaware Bay, NJ where they feed on the eggs of the spawning Horseshoe Crab. Once their fat stores are replenished, they take off again and head north to our Canadian Arctic to bear their young. The Red Knot is now endangered throughout North America due to the over-fishing of the Horseshoe Crab. Without the ability to replenish their energy stores the Red Knot is not able to make the flight north.
