'Tim' is a representation of a bull elephant from the Amboseli ecosystem in southern Kenya. He was named by Cynthia Moss, who has been studying this population of elephants since 1972. Tim had been a favorite with tourists for many years due to his tall stature and his huge sweeping tusks. He was always one of the elephants I looked for when in Amboseli. Sadly, Tim died of a twisted gut in February of 2020 at the age of 51. I was fortunate to see him during my last visit, three months prior.
Earlier this year, Aja partnered with Amboseli Trust for Elephants (ATE) in a fundraising effort. Fifty percent of the selling price of all bronze elephant sculptures sold going to ATE. The trust’s founder and director Cynthia Moss promoted the bronze on social media and the ATE newsletter. So far, seven of the edition of ten have been sold, raising over $12,000 for ATE. This sculpture was also accepted into the National Sculpture Society’s 88th Annual exhibition and Audubon Artists 79th Exhibition where it won the Elliot Liskin Memorial Award for Academic or Realistic Sculpture.
