"The Shooter" depicts Sam Jones of the Boston Celtics.
Sam Jones spent all of his twelve seasons in the NBA with the Boston Celtics, which drafted him in the first round in 1957. Jones displayed perfect form when shooting a jump shot, and is known for his great clutch shooting in decisive games. He scored 15,411 regular season points and 2909 playoff points for his career. Sam led Boston in scoring in 1962-63 (19.7 points per game), 1964-65 (25.9), 1965-66 (23.5), 1966-67 (22.1) and 1967-68 (21.3)Jones had a perfect record (9-0) in Game 7s. He averaged 27.1 points in those potential season-ending, elimination games, including an NBA game-7 record 47 points in the 1963 East Finals. In the 1965 playoffs, Sam averaged a Celtics record 28.6 points per game.
"In the years that I played with the Celtics, in terms of total basketball skills, Sam Jones was the most skillful player that I ever played with. At one point, we won a total of eight consecutive NBA championships, and six times during that run we asked Sam to take the shot that meant the season. If he didn't hit the shot we were finished "we were going home empty-handed. He never missed." -Bill Russell
