This sculpture is of an old matriarch known as Echo along with her one year old calf, Emily Kate. Echo is probably the worlds best known wild elephant, having been featured in the three 'Echo of the Elephants' films and most recently 'Unforgettable Elephants'. She can be easily identified by the notches in her right ear and must notably, her long tusks that cross at the tips.
Echo died May 3rd, 2009 in Amboseli. It is believed she died from a combination of old age (estimated to be 64 years) and the long three-year drought Amboseli has been experiencing.
