One of the first animals I look for when arriving to Costa Rica is the Keel-billed Toucan. It is best known for its oversized colourful bill and is also called the Rainbow-billed Toucan for good reason. The colours are so spectacular against the rich green tropical forest. It is one of the many iconic species of Costa Rica and the national bird of Belize. I have spent hours observing the Keel-billed Toucan taking flight with its smooth, wavelike motion and rapid wing beats. A very unique sounding bird to watch that excites and inspires. A experience that should not be missed while visiting Central America.
