The elephant is a seriously threatened species due to unrestrained international trade in ivory and a dwindling habitat in its native range. Though efforts are underway to stop the demand for ivory, time is running out for this majestic and complex animal. My depiction is of a bull full of energy and youthful ardor raising a little dust and showing off. A pair of startled cattle egrets hasten out of his path. Hopefully this young bull will reach maturity and sire a new generation.
