This beautiful riverbend is easy to miss but hard to forget if you find it! Located south of Sunwapta Falls in Jasper National Park Alberta on the east side of Hwy 93, the Icefields Parkway. In the distant forest, you see a very rare species of firefly known as the “Blue Ghost” which emits a dim blue-white light. The human eye sees the firefly as blue due to a phenomenon where our eyes adjust to darkness and sensitize to the blue tones of the colour spectrum. These fireflies emerge in wet areas June to July. Though extremely rare, biologists have documented the Blue Ghost in the east Kootenay district, Jasper, and Johnston Canyon Alberta.
