Established in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia, International Tiger Day is celebrated on July 29 each year, to celebrate the world's largest species of cat and to raise awareness for tiger conservation. Tigers are classified as Endangered in the Red List of Threatened Species published by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). It is estimated that there are only 3,500 tigers remaining in the wild, representing over a 95% drop in the last century.
