The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List is a running list of over 134,000 known species, 37,000 of which are classified as either endangered or critically endangered. The IUCN defines endangered species as those ones that are very likely to become extinct in the near future. Also, according to the IUCN, 41% of amphibians, 34% of conifers, 33% of reef building corals, 26% of mammals and 14% of birds are among those facing this grim reality. All require our attention and our support to ensure we maintain the health and diversity of our interconnected world.
