A very active member of the Ontario City of Kawartha Lakes arts community RoseMarie exhibits, volunteers, curates, sits on art committees, paints public commissions, designs logos and promotional graphics, illustrates books, writes, sculpts, teaches and promotes the importance of the arts in her community and beyond. As an artist who has always had a strong bond with the natural world, she endeavors to spread the word about our fragile balance within nature and share its beauty through her works.
As RoseMarie describes it, "The Canadian wilderness, flora and fauna, has always been a major inspiration for my paintings, drawings, photography and writing. Plein air painting in watercolour, acrylic or oils I have trekked, camped and rafted throughout Canada. Life drawing is a discipline I have kept through a half century of creating art both illustrative and fine art. I share my love of drawing, painting and sculpting with adults and children and tirelessly support the arts in the City of Kawartha Lakes where my studio sits amidst farms and woodlands I find so inspiring."
Exploring, sketching and photographing Canada’s wilderness from coast to coast continually provides enormous inspiration for RoseMarie's paintings. Her rich palette and lively brush work combined with her understanding of composition and draftsmanship allow her to portray the natural world, its flora and fauna in a truthful, dramatic and realistic manner.
Hiking, camping, canoeing and rafting in wilderness areas allows RoseMarie to indulge her abiding fascination with rugged Canadian landscapes. Excursions to the Yukon, the Northwest Territories, rafting on the Nahanni and Tatshenshini Rivers as well as two extensive visits to the High Arctic, totaling eight weeks, have given her a unique insight into the vastness of Canada, her fragile eco systems, flora, fauna and cultures.
In addition to the extreme wilderness, RoseMarie is also inspired by rural towns and landscapes whether painting en plein air or urban sketching she expresses herself with a sensitive and accomplished style using oils, acrylics or watercolours.
As an active member of Arctic Quest she displayed her newest Arctic Paintings across Canada and internationally in celebration of International Polar Years 2007-2009.
As a member of the ‘The Willisville Mountain Project’ 2009 RoseMarie was instrumental in preserving this beautiful white quartzite mountain in the La Cloche. Cherished by Group of Seven artists; instead of being leveled by a mining company, Willisville Mountain was ceded back to Mother Nature.
Born and educated in Toronto RoseMarie studied watercolour and oil painting, composition, museum studies and perspective with Archibald (Dan) Logan. RoseMarie studied graphic art disciplines, colour theory, design and rendering with Vince McGill as well as layout, life studies and illustration with Fred Savard and history of art, sculpture and anatomy with William Clements.
Aside from her expressions in fine art RoseMarie is an award winning designer and illustrator of two and three dimensional children's toys and pastimes for numerous multi-national corporations. She has also designed and illustrated logos, packaging concepts as well as animated windows.
RoseMarie illustrated the award winning children’s books ‘The Canadian Shield Alphabet’ and ‘Terror on Turtle Creek’.
As a fine artist she has exhibited extensively in galleries and juried art shows her painting are in numerous private, public and corporate collections as well as those of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Vancouver Marine Museum, the Canadian Coast Guard as well as AFC’s Silent Skies Mural.
RoseMarie is an active member of the Kawartha Art Gallery, Kawartha Arts Network and is a Signature member of Artists for Conservation.
