The Hanging Tree (2017)

$1500 USD
I try to walk for exercise every day and in the summer months walk along the Niagara River in New York. The river provides for good fishing and by a small bridge that fishermen fish near is a dead tree that has kept their misguided casts hanging permanently as souvenirs. Kingfishers hunt the banks and occasionally use this dead tree as a perch to survey the water for their meals. The birds are extremely shy when walkers approach and usually don't sit still long enough to attempt a photograph. I tried to capture the two together in this painting in the late evening's fading light.
