Sleepless Rest (2016)

$2500 USD
I have spent many days over the years watching and sketching lions in Africa, lions whose future is now in question. The IUCN Red List, which lists all rare species, classes the African lion as ‘Vulnerable' meaning it faces a high risk of extinction. The African lion population has declined 90% in the last 75 years and is now thought to consist of as few as 20,000 individuals. 'Sleepless Rest' is a call to action that reflects their tenuous hold on the future. It was created one dot at a time using a technical pen in a process called Pointillism. Each dot is a necessary part of the whole just as each lion saved is now crucial to the entire species.
