Sleepers (2015)

Acadia National Park is home to many migrating shorebirds in the fall and spring seasons. I was fortunate several years ago to be the artist-in-residence in Acadia and was able to observe the shorebirds passing through. I was struck by how, during low tide with the morning mist, this group of napping dunlins was back-lit by the eastern morning light to create this relaxed mood of peacefulness. I tried to capture this mood on canvas with brush and paint.
