Hoatzins (2012)

I was quite taken with the prehistoric appearance of these birds, with their blue faces and spiky crests, that we saw in the Peruvian jungle. In 2015, genetic research indicated that the Hoatzin is the last surviving member of a bird that branched off on its own 64 million years ago, shortly after the extinction event that killed the non-avian dinosaurs.
