Prickly Perch (2016)

I am fascinated by the tenacity and determination of the tiny sparrows that are found throughout the United States. Sometimes they can be seen in the most unlikely places, such as perched amongst the beautiful blooms of a prickly pear cactus. I had to paint this tiny creature as it sat almost hidden and dwarfed amidst the colorful southwestern 'giants'. Even though the sparrow is quite a common bird, it still needs to be cherished and respected, as does all wildlife around the world.
