Brown Pelican flying by dock ruins
18.00 x 24.00 (inches)

I return to Boca Grande, Florida each year and am drawn to the remains of the old piers and phosphate docks at the south end of the island to observe the local inhabitants. These monoliths are home to many birds - anhinga, cormorants, osprey, gulls, royal terns and of course brown pelicans like this one, swooping and landing. As the water around the pilings is a fertile habitat for all manner of fish and aquatic life, the birds dive and dine readily, rain or shine!
