In Churchill, Manitoba, where climate change is bitterly obvious, I witnessed this polar bear sow going to extremes to protect her cub from a large, thin boar. The boar took a cub the day prior and was ready to repeat. He ran towards the cub. The sow hollered and she and the cub took off. The boar closed in; she stopped in its path forcing him to change course or be injured by impact. She did this time and time again until the boar chased her and was led away from the cub. This image was taken when they reunited after the chase.
