Thirsty Warthog (2015)

Artist: Douglas Aja
Bronze
Warthog, Red-billed Oxpecker
9.00 x 13.00 (inches)

Warthogs are omnivores and the only pig species adapted to grazing and living in savanna habitats. While feeding, they usually bend their front feet backwards and move around on their wrists. They have calloused pads on their wrists that protect them from injury. This technique is also used when drinking. This warthog has a red-billed oxpecker on his back. The oxpecker helps relieve the warthog of parasites by eating ticks and other bloodsucking insects.
