Siegrist Illustrates Panther Book

Siegrist Illustrates Panther Book

The "Realm of the Panther", a habitat book published by Soundprints and illustrated throughout by Wes Siegrist, features over 14 paintings of Florida panthers in their native South Florida landscape. The back of the book contains a gatefold illustration that folds out into a 34 inch wide panoramic view of the Big Cypress Preserve, the regional setting for the book. Twenty-six species featured in the gatefold are highlighted on the previous pages for children to locate in their respective habitat. The story follows the adventures of two young panther kittens over a two day period as they search for food and encounter danger as they travel through a south Florida forest.

Siegrist, a south Florida resident, was initially contacted by Soundprints after being noticed on the World Wide Nature Artist's Website. The project involved two trips to the Big Cypress Preserve and several visits to local area wildlife rehabilitation facilities. The Artist worked on the project for over a year culminating in the Book's release in May 2000.

Photos of the illustrations, links to Florida panther websites and organizations and a story giving insights into some of the reference work behind the project can be viewed at the Artist's website at http://www.artofwildlife.com/pantherproject.html . Signed copies of the book may be purchased directly from the Artist at $15.95 hardback and $5.95 paperback via the website or by calling 1-863-467-9858.
